Come to Jewbilee 2020’s “The Stories We Tell” this Sun., Jan. 26 at the Addison-Penzak JCC in Los Gatos. The keynote speaker is a spellbinding storyteller. There’ll be food and music. Plus 3 sessions with choices for each. I’m presenting on “Founding Stories: Fact or Fiction?” Did the Exodus happen exactly as written? Or… Hear what archaeologists have to say, pro and con. And what I saw.
When writing Judging Noa, with the Exodus as background, I had a few problems. I also write natural history books and articles, so I know about “carrying capacity.” How did 600,000+ men (plus wives and kids = ~2 million) live on a desert oasis the size of a large mall? And why did they need manna if they brought along their sheep and goats and the desert has saltbush and other edible plants? I had to do some fancy dancing.
